The Shaw Festival is pleased to announce the extension of the world premiere production of Maria Severa by Jay Turvey and Paul Sportelli, directed by Jackie Maxwell. The production has been performing to sold-out houses and standing ovations. Its run will be extended until October 2.

Artistic Director Jackie Maxwell proudly announced this morning that Jay Turvey and Paul Sportelli’s new musical Maria Severa will be a part of the Shaw Festival’s 2011 50th Anniversary Season. The musical is based on Portugese folklore about the famed singer who pioneered the style of music we now call “fado.”
Jay and Paul started working on the piece four years ago, and after a number of workshops and a performance as a part of the Shaw’s 2009 reading series, it is finally ready for production.
It will be directed by Jackie Maxwell. Casting will be announced soon!
